Non Scale Victory Friday!

It’s Friday! I may or may not be singing the Rebecca Black song in my head. Don’t worry, I won’t make it a habit, I’m just excited for the weekend!

I’ve been to the Baltimore Running Festival before, for work. My previous job would have runners raise money and run for us in the race. It always seemed like a fun event as a participant, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t dread waking up before the sun on a Saturday, so I could stand shivering while we waited for our runners to arrive and then finally leave.

Well tomorrow I’m going to be waking up before the sun on a Saturday, except this time by choice! I’ve heard so many good things about this race, so I’m really excited, but also really nervous. This will be, by far, the largest race I’ve run in. Plus I’ve never done a relay race. I know once I get started running I’ll be fine, but I keep having nightmares about the exchange points going horribly wrong.

Anyways positivity is key! So non-scale victory Friday it is!

  1. I had a bad run on Wednesday, which isn’t a victory, but the way I handled it is. I managed to make myself stop stressing about the bad run, and stay positive so that I’ll have the right outlook going into the relay tomorrow!
  2. I signed a lease on a new place that I’ll be moving into in December! I’m super excited. It’s much closer to work (five minutes as opposed to the hour I’m doing now) and it’s cheaper!!!
  3. I started my Whole30 on Monday and aside from some headaches on Tuesday and Thursday it’s been going really well! I only have 25 more days to go!

Don’t forget to share your non scale victories below and have a great weekend! To anyone running in the Baltimore Running Festival, or any race for that matter, this weekend GOOD LUCK!!

Non Scale Victory Friday!

This week has completely flown by! I can’t believe it’s Friday already. I’ve had a crazy week, with a minimal amount of free time. I’m excited for this weekend. My boyfriend and I have a wedding on Saturday, but other than that we have lots of time to spend by ourselves to just relax, something neither of us have had the opportunity to do in a while!

Anyways, onto my non scale victories of the week. As always feel free to share yours in the comments below. I love reading them!

  1. I have had a week with my new car, and I love it! On a better note, however, I’m becoming more comfortable with driving again. Since my accident, driving has given me a lot of anxiety. I still have anxiety, but it’s definitely improved a lot since then.
  2. I bought a fridge full of healthy fruits and vegetables last night! It was looking a little sad, and I was running out of food slowly but surely. I love grocery shopping and having all new food to cook!
  3. I ran with my relay team minus one on Monday! I didn’t know everyone so getting to meet them and run with them made me more comfortable. I can’t wait for the Baltimore Running Festival!

That’s all for now, have a great weekend and share your victories in the comments below!

Non Scale Victory Monday?

Thursday was eventful to say the least. It started off great.  The week was almost over I was excited to go running in the evening. All good things. Then on the drive to the park, I rear ended someone. I rear ended them bad. To be honest I don’t remember much of the accident but I do remember suddenly realizing my airbags were deployed and my engine was smoking,  and that I needed to turn off my car and get out.

I’m fine, the other person is fine. My car is not. I haven’t been officially told, but my car is probably totaled, meaning this weekend was full of car shopping.

I was a wreck for the rest of the evening and could not stop crying. Have you ever cried so much you literally dehydrate yourself and use up all your tears and then you start dry crying. Yeah that happened.

Thursday night I was talking to my boyfriend and he pointed out. “Isn’t it great that you have a ton of healthy ways at your disposal to deal with something like this?” He’s right.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to talk about this here but I think it’s important to stay positive about  life when things like this happen.

1. I am alive and unhurt, and so is the other driver. This is the most important. I have no bruises or cuts and I am alive. My car can be replaced, I cannot.

2. I have so many people that love and support me. I was picked up by a family friend, and my boyfriend came rushing to my house as soon as he heard. My parents drove an hour and a half to come to my house for probably 30 minutes just to make sure that I was okay.

Overall, it could have be so much worse. I’m still stressed out about the whole thing, my eye hasn’t stopped twitching since Thursday! I already have a fear of driving that this just made a lot worse so I’m nervous about having to drive for longer than the ten minutes at a time I’ve been doing daily since Friday.

I haven’t been running since, and to be honest, because that’s where I was headed I’m nervous about driving back to the park to go running. Still I know that it’ll probably be the best thing for my nerves and I’m hoping to squeeze in a short run this afternoon around my neighborhood.

Hoping to have happier updates for next time!

Non Scale Victory Friday + Dating Naked

Am I the only one that feels like this week was so long? I can’t believe that Monday was only four days ago. This has been a busy week with work, and my personal life with so much happening and changing. I am ready for the weekend! The fact it’s a three day weekend is just an added bonus!

Today’s non scale victory Friday will be a little different. There are definitely some victories, but also just some recaps on what happened this week.

  1. I went shopping with a friend of mine in Baltimore and while shopping a sales lady tried to figure out my size so she could pick out some clothes for me. She looked at me, paused, and said “I just can’t tell if you’re a small or a medium.” I definitely shrieked and then proceeded to yell “SHE THINKS I’M A SMALL!! DID YOU HEAR THAT?” I may or may not have completely freaked her out.
  2. I started grad school on Wednesday! After all the drama with how to pay for it, it’s all been resolved and I had my first class on Wednesday. I was definitely nervous going in, (I still am a little to be honest) but the first class wasn’t bad and I think it will be a positive thing for me.
  3. One of the things I was most nervous about with grad school is how it would affect my running and new healthy lifestyle. Well I started off strong. There are two hours between when I get off work and my class starts which is just enough time to go for a run around my work and shower. It wasn’t perfect but it was a start. I’m sure there will be a lot of shifting of my schedule and routine before I find the right balance, but that’s okay, the important thing is to work to find it.
  4. I had every intention of going to bed early on Wednesday night after my class, and then waking up going to work and then running on Thursday. Well I went to bed early with no problem, got a full eight hours, which was great, and then woke up with a headache and generally just feeling awful. I spent the whole of Thursday feeling kind of blah and ultimately decided to forgo running. I wish I could say I spent Thursday evening productively, but I instead did my laundry and ate dinner in front of the TV while watching Dating Naked (have you seen that show? It’s an absolute train wreck. But I couldn’t look away!) I never watch reality TV but I couldn’t resist last night.

That’s that! Share your Non-Scale Victories with me in the comments. Or you can tell me if you’ve ever heard of/watched Dating Naked. Please help me feel that I am not alone in killing a few brain cells with that show.

Happy Friday!

Non Scale Victory Friday!

After a couple busy weeks it was nice to finally have a week that was relatively stress free without much going on. I have a fun weekend planned though. I’m excited to meet a friend of mine for happy hour tonight and then my boyfriend and I have tickets to see Miranda Lambert on Saturday.

Onto my non scale victories for the week:

  1. I’m working on how I view my results which I wrote about here. It’s not going to happen overnight but it was nice to be able to see progress in something that I really haven’t been able to before then.
  2. I went running twice this week despite having a lot of stupid things working against me (like forgetting to pack my sports bra meaning I had to go home and get it instead of going straight to the park).
  3. Grad school (hopefully) starts next week (long story) so I forwent one of my runs to spend an extra day with my boyfriend before my schedule picks up for the semester. The extra time was so nice and definitely needed.

That’s all there is! Share your non scale victories below. Happy Friday and have a terrific weekend!

Non Scale Victory Friday!

My Birthday is TOMORROW!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! If you can’t tell, I’m excited. I had such a great week starting with the One Direction concert on Monday and I know it’ll only get better with this weekend. I have plans to see Spamalot with my boyfriend tonight and then having friends over to celebrate my birthday with a cookout and jet skiing.

Anyways onto non scale victory Friday!

  1. Despite being tired, and REALLY not wanting to, I dragged my butt out the door and went running on Wednesday.
  2. I have no idea how far I ran on Wednesday because I ran without a gps watch! Right when I was going out the door my watch began beeping at me to let me know it was low on battery. That’s what I get for not charging it for two weeks. Anyways it was kind of liberating to run without worrying about my pace or distance. (I mapped my route after and I think I ran 4.6 miles but I’m not certain that’s entirely accurate).
  3. For three nights this month I got over 8 hours of sleep! I felt so well rested, it was great!

Tell me about your non scale victories in the comments below! Have a great weekend!

Non Scale Victory Friday

Despite it being a busy week for me with my car brakes needing to be replaced and what not this week did seem to fly by. I can’t wait for this weekend. I’ll be going up to Pittsburgh to visit my sister who moved there at the beginning of the summer for work. I’ve never been to Pittsburgh so I’m eager to see what the city has to offer!

My non-scale victories for the week:

  1. I ran terrifically on Monday. If you missed it see here. But I kept an average pace of 10 minutes and it wasn’t even hard!
  2. I was feeling a little under the weather on Wednesday and Thursday, but I still got a track work out in on Thursday evening. I ran 4 miles and it felt awesome!
  3. I was running low on food this week and was scraping the barrel on what to eat. But yesterday I went to Aldi and bought a bunch of fruit vegetables and chicken for healthy meals to come! It’s always nice to have food.

That’s all for now! Have a great weekend and feel free to share your non-scale victories in the comments below!

Non Scale Victory Friday!

It’s been a great week! As difficult as it was to go back to work after my short weekend in Virginia Wine Country the week went by so quickly! Last night I got to see a close friend who is currently house sitting near my work. We got Indian food at Passage to India and then gluten free cupcakes from Lilit Cafe.

YUM!

I ate the peanut butter and chocolate one last night and it was delicious. I can’t wait to have the Cookies and Cream one later.

On to my Non-Scale Victories for the week!

  1. I got back out there and ran three days in a row! This is the first time in a while that have had a consistent running schedule since I sprained my ankle and it felt so good to really get out there. Each run was great and I didn’t have to stop and walk once. And the third run was….
  2. Interval training! By the third day in a row I wanted to run, but I really did not feel like going back to the park and running another 2.5 mile loop. It just sounded so boring, and honestly I think my body was tired. I’ve only done interval training one time before with a group of friends a couple months ago. I still had all the information they gave me so I found a high school track on my way home from work and had at it. It felt great! It was just what I needed and it kept me focused and I felt great after. I think this is something I’m going to incorporate in my training on a regular basis from now on.
  3. I bought an immersion blender! This one to be exact, and now I can make healthy mayonnaise even more conveniently using this recipe. Okay, so maybe this isn’t a non scale victory but I’ve been on a very strict budget recently and I’m very excited about my shiny new kitchen tool, so I’m sharing!
  4. I realized that there’s been a definite shift in my thinking recently. I’ve generally just been much more positive. It’s been pointed out to me by a few people in my life and I have to agree! I used to spiral into negative thinking so easily, and little things would completely derail me, but I’m just not experiencing those emotions as much, or as an intensely anymore. I can have a bad day and it’s not hard to pick myself up and get back on track the next.

To close off I am currently obsessed with this song and I had to share. I have been listening to it on repeat for the past two days, I almost have all the lyrics memorized…

As always don’t forget to share your Non-Scale Victories below and have a great weekend!

Non Scale Victory Friday!

It’s FRIDAY! It’s been a busy, but good, week for me. I’m going to jump right into my Non Scale Victories for the week.

1. I’ve been wanting to get my boater’s license for a while so I could learn to drive my boyfriend’s jet skis. Last week I finally did, and this week I drove a jet ski for the first time! I was a bit nervous, but I didn’t do too badly. Nobody was injured so I’ll count it as a success. After trying my hand at jet skiing my boyfriend took over and we rode around the bay eventually ending up in North Beach, which is right by my hometown in Calvert County. That was an unexpected detour.

2. On Tuesday I got back to running and right when I was starting ran into some friends of mine that were waiting for their running group. I ended up joining them, because why not? I’m glad I did. I don’t usually like running in groups. I prefer solo runs and going at my own pace. However, running with them helped to keep me motivated at times when I may have given up if I were on my own

3. Columbia Yoga Center by my house was offering yoga classes this week for my favorite price, FREE. I’ve been wanting to get try some cross training and I thought this was the perfect opportunity. I did a runner’s yoga and a basic yoga I class and I really enjoyed both. Look out for a blog post about the classes.

That’s all for now! I’m excited for the weekend, I’ll be going to Virginia Wine Country for some rest, relaxation and my favorite thing: WINE! Leave your own Non-Scale Victories in the comments below!

Non Scale Victory Friday/Happy July Fourth!

Happy Fourth of July! It also happens to be a Friday, which means it’s also Non-Scale Victory Friday! I started the day off at the Arbutus Firecracker 10k. As a whole, I loved the race. It was so well organized and it was great running through the Arbutus community and seeing everyone in their yards cheering everyone on. I did not, however, love running a 10k after I have only run one week in the past month. It was ROUGH, but I’m glad I did it.

So anyways today I only have one Non-Scale Victory; I finished the Arbutus Firecracker 10k! Trust me I had moments where I was doubting whether I’d be able to cross the finish line, I had to keep stopping and walking and at times just wanted to give up. Once I reached the 6 mile marker I thought there was no way that my time would be below 1:30 or 1:40, but it was! The race wasn’t timed but the timer at the finish line read 1:14:33 when I crossed. Not bad at all considering how many times I had to stop and walk, and it’s not far off from my best 10k time. So I’m pleased with my results, go me!

I’ll write more about the race in the next post but for now that’s it. I’m excited to go celebrate the Fourth with my boyfriend and some friends. I even made a key lime pie that I’m hoping is as delicious as it looks!

YUMMM!!!

I hope everyone has a terrific Fourth and feel free to share your non-scale victories in the comments below!

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
